During my years (wow, three decades worth) in the car business, I have witnessed radical changes in the way customers shop for Volkswagens, Porsches, Audis, and especially used cars. The Internet has become an invaluable tool for customers to use while shopping. Unfortunately, with troubling regularity, customers are misled while price shopping for cars over the Internet.
We understand that, to some of you, buying a new car can be a dreaded experience, due in large part to the negotiation process. You want it to be quick and easy -- and so do we. Automobile transactions have become more complex than they were in the past. Payments and terms are now more difficult to quote accurately because of changes in banking laws. Different states have different regulations on full disclosure. For example, did you know that in Maryland, new car dealers are not required to include "freight charges" in their quoted prices? Oh, they still charge for freight...but they are not required to add it in while advertising. A PA consumer may find that a MD dealer is neglecting to tell you about some charges until you're signing on the dotted line. When it comes to advertising payments, many are quoting monthly payments or even final cash prices where an arbitrary trade in value is given, or large cash down payments are being used to lure customers with low payment advertising.
